Straight through de Greef
De Greef is an area between Kalmthout and Wildert that appeals to the imagination. Back in the 14th century, an abbey farm was built here, while the current farm dates back to the late 18th century. Godfried Hermans, prelate and later on abbot of the abbey of Tongerlo, used to live here.
In this neighbourhood, there are many more interesting stories to be told. Just a few of them are the history of the old castle of the Donnet family, of the peat canal and the process of creating peat or the stories of fallen deminers. These are all examples of Kalmthout history and not so well-known. Of course, simply enjoying the beautiful nature is part of the tour!
