De Maatjes

In Nieuwmoer, you will find the expansive Maatjes: a unique area containing reed fields, marshy woods and wet meadows. Ornithologists, nature photographers, and hikers will be amazed and elated thanks to the rare reed and meadow birds that inhabit this marshy area. The Maatjes also hosts numerous relics from the time of peat extraction, which has resulted in the current marsh landscape. So even history enthusiasts will feel as though they’ve come home when visiting this precious natural habitat.
