't Kotje der Herinnering
The 'Kotje der Herinnering' is a small private museum located on the edge of the Kalmthoutse Heide.
It contains an extensive collection of authentic tools employed in old Flemish crafts and numerous utensils used by previous generations and still in existence. Specifically, objects from the period of the late 19th and early 20th centuries are displayed. It was a time when our ancestors, mostly 'keuterboerkes', had to survive under difficult conditions here and in the Kempen region.
A visit to this small museum will give you an idea of a way of life unthinkable today. You will be amazed at the simple but oh so effective utensils that people used as necessary components of daily life.
The Kotje cherishes this heritage and is thus proud to honour the generations whose arduous existence paved the way for our prosperity. The museum was - rightly - given the Heikneuter culture award in 2019 by the culture council and municipality of Kalmthout.
You can visit the Kotje by reservation only between April 1st and September 30th (closed on Mondays).
Guidance at this museum is in Dutch only.
