The terrain of the Klein and Groot Schietveld is mainly known as a military domain; the pristine landscape there is very similar to that of the Kalmthoutse Heide. Cycling here is wonderful; the route takes you to out-of-the-way spots such as the Franciscan convent in Gooreind and the scenic green link Het Beersgat in Wuustwezel.

Adjacent to the Groot Schietveld you pass meadows and the arable land of rural Overbroek. From there, you continue along the avenue of trees to the Klein Schietveld via the historic Maria-ter-Heide district. The military presence is most noticeable in and around the Brasschaat airfield.

Go past the Gunfire site and Den Toren, a former lookout post for air traffic controllers, which now houses a minimuseum. Definitely worth a stop! Enjoy a leisurely drink on one of the terraces at Perron Noord, and when the weather is fine you can view the sports planes taking off and landing.
